Esthetics is More than Skin Deep

Esthetics covers the evaluation, care, and non medical treatment of the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body, although people usually dont think of it that way. The skin is a critical part of the human body, not only to keep us all together and keep germs and illness out of our bodies, it also defines how we look. Esthetics looks at the skin like a blank slate; it can be fashioned and decorated, but also if neglected, can be dry, dull, and not very attractive. Keeping up with the best care and latest discoveries about the skin is the foundation of an estheticians work.
Although the basis of esthetics is the skin, this elite field of study also includes much more. Estheticians also study to become experts with makeup, hair removal, and even overall body care. Estheticians work hard for an average of 9 months studying, accumulating at least 1000 hours of education time. Some specific topics that esthetics courses cover are bacteriology, waxing, aromatherapy, makeup theory and application, microdermabrasion, and salon/spa management, along with many others. Many schools now offer courses in Botox as well.
